About Brian

I am a follower of Jesus, blessed with a wife, two children, and a call to serve God wherever He leads. For 12 years, we were missionaries, with me serving as a missionary journalist sharing stories of His work in South Africa and around the world. When we moved back to the USA, Tracy and the kids returned to normal work, and I continued serving remotely in missions. I am now returning to working outside missions, but ministry will always be part of our family's lives in Christ.

Books — Root from Dry Ground: The Story of the Sudan Interior Mission

A look at SIM’s history from 1966.

Root from Dry Ground: The Story of the Sudan Interior Mission

Root from Dry Ground: The Story of the Sudan Interior Mission was published in 1966 by the Sudan Interior Mission. Although no authors or editors were named, the first five chapters were adapted from an earlier history, Seven Sevens of Years and a Jubilee, written by Dr. Rowland V. Bingham and published posthumously in 1943. The final two chapters of Root from Dry Ground summarize the years from 1942 to 1966, and a presentation that Dr. Bingham gave on “How we became interdenominational” is included as an appendix.

Finally back again, together

From the beginning, this ministry has always been a family endeavor.

Tracy and I prayed about serving vocationally for many years even before God’s “wait” became His “yes, now.” The kids grew up preparing to move overseas one day. We all let go of things that would’ve become family heirlooms or treasured toys and mementos to share with later generations, and much harder, we all said goodbye to friends and loved ones and stepped forward in faith and obedience to God’s call. We moved to Cape Town, found a church and embraced our community and its people, and made friends. There were blessings and joys and challenges and heartaches—just as there are in every season of life.

Then, much sooner than we’d anticipated, we did it all again, letting go of the life and relationships we’d formed in South Africa, stepping forward again into God’s plans although it felt like stepping back, trusting and obeying God even when we didn’t understand His call back to the US.
