A faithful friend: celebrating 10 years with a favorite camera—and all it represents

Today is the tenth anniversary of buying the “dream camera” I’d picked out years earlier.

I happened to notice this was coming just two days ago, and that has reminded me of God’s faithfulness and providence, of the patience He often asks us to practice, and of the joy He takes in blessing His children.

Books — Root from Dry Ground: The Story of the Sudan Interior Mission

A look at SIM’s history from 1966.

Root from Dry Ground: The Story of the Sudan Interior Mission

Root from Dry Ground: The Story of the Sudan Interior Mission was published in 1966 by the Sudan Interior Mission. Bingham and published posthumously in 1943. Finally back again, together

From the beginning, this ministry has always been a family endeavor.

There were blessings and joys and challenges and heartaches—just as there are in every season of life.

Then, much sooner than we’d anticipated, we did it all again, letting go of the life and relationships we’d formed in South Africa, stepping forward again into God’s plans although it felt like stepping back, trusting and obeying God even when we didn’t understand His call back to the US.

The greatest of these is love

Old thoughts, worth sharing again.  It was about a year ago that I—living abroad and far too often expected as a token American to explain US politics—prepared this republication of a Facebook post made back in October of 2012, but I shied away from publishing it.  Our missionary organization discourages us from political involvement, and so I again distance myself from that aspect, seeking here only to encourage grace, love, and healing as a nation, regardless of the disagreements that too often and too greatly divide us.
