“You can impress from afar, but …”

Late last month, I got to ask leaders in SIM’s US and International offices what they see as the value in our assignment to South Africa. This video presents their words.

A blessedly busy month begins!

We would appreciate your prayers for us as we enter a month of great opportunities to talk about the work God has for us!

From Sunday through Tuesday, we will attend the Missional Holiness Conference in Bethlehem, Pa., where we will have a display about our mission to South Africa.  Please pray that God blesses us and the other attendees through this time and the conversations we will have as we speak about God’s work in and through us.  Please pray that we develop relationships that lead to further support partners and opportunities.

Once we’re back, we’ll begin preparing for our official introduction as missionaries at our church, Crosswinds Wesleyan Church in Canandaigua!  This is a very exciting and encouraging development for us.  During all three services on November 8th and 9th, Pastor Craig Cooper will interview us in front of the congregation about our journey into missions and about the work ahead; we will also have a table set up outside the ministry center.  Please pray for us to contagiously convey an enthusiasm for missions and that many would be inspired to pray about both supporting missionaries and discerning what roles God has for them.  Please also consider attending Crosswinds that weekend (or any! all are welcome; 3360 Middle Cheshire Road, Canandaigua; services at 6 p.m. Saturday, 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday).  We would love to see you there!

The following week, Crosswinds will begin its second annual “Global Impact Festival” (Nov. 16-23), celebrating God’s work around the world and encouraging our church members to support missionaries and ministries here and abroad.  This year’s theme is James 1:27:  “Religion that is pure and undefiled before God, the Father, is this:  to visit orphans and widows in their affliction, and to keep oneself unstained from the world.”  During this time, please pray for people to be touched by God’s heart for us to help those in need and His call for us to avoid the temptations and beliefs so common in our world.

As always, thank you for your encouragement, prayers, and support!

For once, it seems right to be late…

Our screen-free week ended eight days ago, but I’m only now getting on here to reflect on it.  Considering how it went, that seems appropriate.

Every year…

Today marks the 13th anniversary of the September 11th attacks.  Terrorists killed nearly 3,000 people that day, and those who rushed to help in the rescue and clean-up efforts continue to die of illnesses attributed to toxic conditions at the World Trade Center.

It was a day filled with hate and horror, but also love and hope; the years since have brought more of each.

Every year, we as Americans share our memories and grief and encourage each other to preserve our resolve never to forget.

Every year, Alan Jackson’s song makes me cry.

As we remember our nation’s tragedy and the lives lost, let us also remember to pray.

Let us pray for the families and friends who grieve loved ones who died that day and in the wars that have followed.

Let us pray for those who continue to risk their lives to keep others safe.  Let us pray for healing for those who risked their health and wholeness to help others.

Let us pray for our leaders to discern the right answer to each challenge and problem and to have the courage and support to follow it.

Let us pray for changed hearts within those who would harm us and others, and pray for the safety of those among them informing us of their plans.

Let us pray for a world of peace, love, and justice.
