It’s impossible to see everything God is doing in and through us as individuals and as groups, but it’s also hard just to remember the things we can see.
With our church’s annual meeting happening just around the corner, pastor Craig Cooper asked me a few weeks ago if I could put together a video highlighting some of the ways God is changing lives through our church, Crosswinds Wesleyan in Canandaigua, NY.
It seemed easy enough and a great opportunity to learn and practice some new skills that I’ll need for my work in Cape Town. It also seemed like there would be plenty of time, both to do the project and to fit our ideas into the time we envisioned at the start.
Well, we were a little mistaken on both parts. Attending a convention and then helping Tracy prepare for her trip to Cape Town meant I couldn’t start working on this project until just over a week ago. It also blew way past our original goal for the total length of the video, so we instead created three (all linked below): a full video with reports by leaders of different ministries, a short version shown during the services (the leaders reported to the congregation in person), and a personal testimony of someone who just celebrated a year of recovery.
We may have been wrong in our plans, but we’re pretty excited about what God is doing in and through our church.
So as Craig says (in the longer video), “sit back and engage in seeing what the Holy Spirit is doing in and through the people of Crosswinds.”
Planning, filming, and editing videos will be part of my work in South Africa, but it is very much a developing area for me. I’m very grateful to Pastor Craig and everyone else involved for their help, suggestions, and patience.
Please note: all filming at the food pantry and the Celebrate Recovery meeting was done with the permission of all individuals shown.

Pastor Craig’s short video above was cut from the beginning of this video, but this full version includes the reports by each ministry leader with footage and images of those ministries. If you’ve already watched the short video and want to jump straight to the reports, go to the 2:45 mark.
The music used as a soundtrack for the ministry videos is “That Kid in Fourth Grade Who Really Liked the Denver Broncos,” by Chris Zabriskie, provided under Creative Commons license by FreeMusicArchive.org. This is the third piece of his music that we’ve used, and I find myself really enjoying his work (and his whimsical titles). I also greatly appreciate his generosity in sharing his creative talents for free. The links below relate to FreeMusicArchive, but his own web site is http://chriszabriskie.com.
